This had created a conflict of interest of among teachers due to the amount of money involved. At that time, the Union had changed its mind and wanted to implement an integrative bargaining strategy rather than having a distributive bargaining. The Teacher’s Union was going through a very difficult phase because they had to bargain over a very critical issue. After a long discussion, the teacher’s union had decided that the Newtown negotiation will prove to be a beneficial as well as an integrative bargaining opportunity for all the parties involved. If the Union had decided to change its strategy from being integrative to becoming distributive than it may demonstrate that the team is not being honest and the contract will not be carried forward. However, soon a deal was finalized because there was a probable endowment plan which would be granted to the school and it will result in a $1.5 million surplus which will than make the Teacher’s Union to get productive results in the future and demand for higher salaries if they can prove their worth.
As all individual possess distinct traits and aptitudes, hence this can influence the outcome of the negotiation. During the initial stage of team planning, I felt that the teacher union had performed the function of an arbitrator, because they had agreed to what the board had thought of and moreover, they didn’t signify any objections too. Apart from that, members of the teachers union were very concerned with the physical and social environment and also very much high in friendliness. These aspects of the teachers union indicate that they were people who were comprised of a group of arbitrators, because an arbitrator is someone who shares as many information as he or she can and who shows his consensus on almost all the given issues. For instance, I had initially resisted on the transportation fees cost because by implementing this idea, we would cause them to pay for a service which once used to be free of charge for the students. However, charging transportation fee from the students would be justified if and only if through the generated funds, the quality of education could be significantly enhanced.
