Power can be used by mangers for managing the organization. It is an essential component of strong leadership which if used effectively can provide extraordinary results. Power component must be used by managers for mobilizing the compelling resources and support for getting the things done in an organization. Power must be accompanied with the features of flexibility, high patience and tolerance power and stamina to handle conflicts for achieving the organizational goals (Bassett-Jones, 2005). Power must have the structural factors also for attaining individual and organizational success such as formal authority for easy access to information and keeping a control over organizational resources.
In present scenario where the workers are knowledge workers power and control function can be effective only with the engagement of all the employees of the organization. Employees today are innovative and creative, but this can only be possible when the traditional approaches to power and control must be integrated with the contemporary management for the benefit of the organization (Freeman, 2010). In modern organizations self-managed teams are being formed which use complex systems for managing their own tasks through easily accessible precise performance measures. Knowledge workers are of equal capability and skills as of their managers. Now management with power and control is seem as a process undertaken by all the employees together and is not just limited to the functions of the managers for controlling other employees.
