This middle class that cropped up during this era fundamentally had right wing ideologies. They were all leaning towards the conservatives. This leads to the conservatives winning the elections in a landslide. It was found from history that whenever a very right wing candidate was made to stand in elections they did not win. The candidates who predominately won were the candidates who ran as moderates leaning towards the right. The general population are all inherently moderate. The Silent majority hence inclined towards different ends, but it was a transition being made. It was found that people have both right and left viewpoint. They want policies that fundamentally make their quality of life better and want effective policies that aide to the economic growth. This new ideologies helped people to lean towards some of the right wing ideologies. This aided the conservative party to gain a larger political base. After the changing of the political ideologies in the right the republican people of the 90s and 80s all want economic prosperity. They all support the ideology of consumerism. In the early sixties the people thought of republicans as people who believed in only altruism and followed only the words of the God and their priests. The modern day republican acknowledges the presence of God at the same time want to see economic growth in the country.
The technique of addressing the silent majority was initiated by Nixon and is continuing in both sides of the political spectrum. Bill Clinton and Barack Obama all spoke in their campaign speeches regarding the importance of catering the silent middle class. Actually in the current times all parties speak of addressing the need of the silent majority and try to portray the opposition as elitist. The middle class people want effective policies and want their lives to improve based on the policies. This concept was not clearly spoken before the time of Nixon.
