Baker’s Delight is an Australian owned bakery franchise and world’s one of the most successful and largest companies in the bakery section. It owns over 700 bakeries throughout the world with most of them in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. It’s baked products including sweet, savory, crusty, soft, delicious pastries and bread. The franchise is one of those few bakeries in the world that engages in the everyday baking of new bread that initiates from the scratch (Baker’s Delight, 2017).
The industry revenue is estimated to increase by an annualized 1.4% in 2016-17 and reached a total of $752.3 million. The study includes various strategic issues involved with Baker’s Delight and with the Australian bakery sector. The strategic issues are those issues or challenges that question the organizational functioning. It also directs an organization towards operational success through proper planning on the basis of the study of an internal and external factor of the organization (Ambler, 2017). This paper would identify and elucidate the three strategic issues and assess its potential impact on the organization and thereby suggest strategic recommendations.
Strategic Issue 1: Competition from Supermarkets
Bread production industry in Australia has been undergoing rapid changes which are inevitable due to the perishable nature of the bread. The bread production is quite popular in Australia and heavily populated states like Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales have been contributing greatly to the bread industry. Traditional bread manufacturers such as the Baker’s Delight are situated close to the markets and several industrial changes such as storage and transportation have allowed the industry to participate in large scale production as well as expanding their supply areas.
