Classical music, originally, is art music, which includes liturgical or religious music and classical music. It is focused on the music formed in the medieval era and includes the renaissance period. It was formed using instruments from the Baroque era, such as the cello, contrabass, recorder, trombone, timpani, fortepiano and organ which provide an effective level of music and rhythm. This forms the basis of building a stronger understanding of how to concentrate and how to focus on creating better associations (Pietschnig, Jakob; Voracek, Martin; Formann, Anton K, 2010).
Classical music helps form the ‘Mozart effect’ wherein classical music helps improve memorization based on helping relax the nervous system, improving concentration and also helping form associations; all of which can help improve the speed and intensity of learning and memorization. It helps build a technique of rhythm and short term improvement in performance of some of the mental tasks which are known as ‘spatial temporal reasoning’. This does help improve critical thinking to a great extent. It also helps evaluate things from different perspectives and use the left brain and right brain in a balanced manner. It helps ensure better mental growth as well.
The main purpose of using classical music in leaning and memorization is that it helps create the Mozart effect and spatial temporal reasoning, both of which are essential for effective learning and memorization (Thompson, Billie M.; Andrews, Susan R., 2000). It helps ensure that there are effective health benefits as well as it helps create mental relaxation. It helps form a stronger level of mental growth, all of which are essential for improving learning and memorization. So, classical music and training in classical music is essentially helpful for the purpose of improving learning and memorization skills.
This research is significant because in present times, as education and awareness are growing in importance, it becomes extremely essential that children who have problems with learning and memorization are helped build these skills. Not being able to learn and memorize can lead to a drawback and so it becomes essential to rectify this issue (Thompson, Billie M.; Andrews, Susan R., 2000). It is quite possible that lack of ability to learn and memorize can lead to several problems and stress among children.
In present times, with advanced neurology, psychology and other interventions, it becomes possible to help children and adults learn and memorize better. Using classical music as an intervention has proven to be effective in the past and so researching this further becomes essential. It can help build better confidence among children when they are able to learn and memorize. It helps them perform better.
At present, there is no complete research carried out in the field of classical music and its impact on learning and memorization (Pietschnig, Jakob; Voracek, Martin; Formann, Anton K, 2010). This makes it extremely essential that there are usage and research on classical music and its impact on learning and memorization. These perceptions are definitely not baseless. Research has proven this to some extent, but further research becomes essential to be able to evaluate the impact and extent to which classical music can help improve learning and memorization (William Pryse-Phillips, 2003).
It is essential to be able to build an effective method and format in which classical music can be used as a medium or intervention for the purpose of creating an effective level of improvement in learning and memorization. It helps ensure that there is sufficient evidence for using classical music as an intervention to improve learning and memorization. So, it is required this research to be carried out.
The method used for this research is a combination of primary and secondary research. A combination of these methods helps ensure a holistic approach towards researching the impact of classical music on learning and memorization. Literature review is to be used as a secondary research method based on academic sources and academic journals. Online survey is to be used as a primary research method in order to form an effective understanding of how classical music has helped students learn and memorize better.
