Yet another statement to claim the lack of effectiveness in the social policy is the usual resting pattern of people in New Zealand. NZCCSS (2017) has reported the vulnerability of 42,000 people because of housing crisis. The government has not taken a deeper look into the insecure accommodation. This has worsened the livelihood of people and the homeless tend to sleep on the streets, cars, garages, sheds, or parks. This has created a negative impact on the temperament and led to development of domestic violence between people.
The housing market has got crashed in a way that low income families display high dependence on the private landlords to sustain in a decent housing. The government has to be blamed as they have decreased stock of social housing by 3% between 2008 and 2016 when the market demanded for more (Duncan, 2016). This has consequently reduced the trust that people had on the government.
Although the social and economic policies are in bad shape, there is no virtual media attention towards the national immigration policy. When the immigrant rate has exceeded the target earlier in 2014, the government was liable to stop it, but they did not as it helped the GDP to grow. The inability to make the decision at that time has led to a problem between demand and supply of housing units (Eaqub, 2014).
It is the upcoming election that has to take a pivotal role to address the poorly framed social policy and solve the housing crisis.
The problem of inadequate housing is certainly manageable if housing policies are framed accordingly.
