What did you learn about slavery or about the abolitionist movement from this film? Do you trust the historical information that was presented? Is there a hero in the film? Who is it, and why? The character of the black abolitionist played by Morgan Freeman is wholly fabricated. Why was that decision made? How serious is this “error?” What other aspects of the film do you suspect would not pass a historical test? What is lost by such “errors?”

In the religious institution, it would probable create empathy for people. In the current society, irrespective of religion or race, there is a fear against people who look different than the self. By reading these novels, the empathy would be developed. From a personal standpoint, the political leaders who are able to sustain by sending out the messages of fear would not like this story. Any empathetic person with little knowledge in French History would develop respect for the storyline. If the people had more knowledge on the French history, there would appreciate the viewpoints shown in the storyline.
