An early stage of SOS development is the establishment of a formal organizational policy toward sustainability. The policy should address all aspects of the organization and it should be endorsed by senior management. All organizational activities should then be examined for their effects on the environment, finance, and customer satisfaction and employee welfare, among other subjects. Management and employees can subsequently work together to ensure that their operational procedures are adjusted, if necessary, to incorporate sustainable practices. Record keeping should also be reviewed and enhanced in order to provide proof of sustainable activities and to serve as a baseline for improved performance.
The success of the SOS depends on a variety of factors, including the level of buy-in from employees throughout the organization. Senior management must maintain a commitment to provide sufficient resources and personnel for sustainability initiatives. Employees must be committed to carrying out their duties in a manner that supports the requirements of the SOS. Breakdowns within either of these levels can spell the end of the Sustainability Operating System. Therefore this report will help to convince to the senior management in deciding of development of SOS.
