Homosexuality Today
Allowing same sex marriages would help eliminate the problems that arise when closeted homosexuals marry others and later divorce seems like the only solution; which is unacceptable by the couple children.
A common phenomenon today is that of same sex shifts. There are numerous examples where people have spent most of their lives being married and later realized their actual orientation. This has led to older age gay and lesbian marriages. The case of Vicki Brail who divorced her husband of 20 years to be in a relationship with Dori, with who she later got married shows how long it takes people to realize how they feel about the same sex. A concern here is the impact that this would have on children and whether they would be willing to see their mother/father being replaced by a man/woman. In the above stated case Brail’s children got her married to Dori.
However, it is not always as simple as that. In the movie Beginners, the Christopher Plummer decides to get into a gay relationship at the age of 75 and this is confusing and stressful for his son. Another case to support that would be of John Siegfried whose children started crying when they found out about their fathers gay relationship. This in turn is not easy for the families to accept such decisions and live the same way.
