The below provided chapter of the research is going to shed light on the literature regarding internationalisation of private sector Chinese business industry. Various aspects and factors that foster or hinder internationalisation of Chinese private business industry are included in this chapter for providing a detailed overview of the chosen research topic.
2.2. Basic Concept and theories on Business Internationalisation
According to Liang et al. (2014), there are several factors that could influence business organisations’ strategic decisions towards business internationalisation, such as market potentiality, associated market risks, past experience with internationalisation strategies, availability of required financial and other resources and competition in targeted international markets etc. The International New Venture (INV) model and the Process Theory of Internationalisation (PTI) highlight the above mentioned factors to be essential while making business internationalisation decisions (Wei et al., 2015).
According to Huang & Renyong (2014), business growth strategies, acquisition, international operation, international market knowledge and experience and essential resource availability are the most important factors highlighted in the PTI Model as essential decision making aspects to ensure sustainable international growth of a business. On the other hand, Shen (2015) explained that the INV Model puts more focus on aspects like entrepreneurship, cost theory, resource management and governance theory to be the most important factor for triggering business internationalisation. Moreover, the model considers the influence of change in the economic, social and technological factors in the process and successfulness of business internationalisation process (Liang et al., 2014).
As per the view of Hertenstein et al. (2017), the most important factors which could be summarised for being essential in the context of business internationalisation are targeted market condition, consumer demand, technological advancement, structure of the industry, competition and position in the domestic market, organisational structure, financial and other resource requirements, transaction cost, management and strategic decisions, targeted growth objectives and success with past internationalisation strategies etc. As most of these factors could be covered through considering the concept of internationalisation provided in the PTI and INV theory, the discussion in the literature review part of this research has been constructed depending on these theories (Liang et al., 2014).
The six main aspects of business internationalisation which has been covered in this literature review are – 1) influence of the external market condition in international and domestic market in early period of internationalisation of a business, 2) usefulness of entrepreneurial approaches to utilise opportunities of internationalisation, possible requirements of resources to a business for meeting internationalisation objectives, 3) strength of a firm to face competition in international market, 4) physical distance of the selected market, appropriateness of the international market selection and selection of the market entry mode, 5) strategic selection to face international market competition and 6) justification of internationalisation approaches of an organisation with respect to its current market position and strength (Wei et al., 2014).
