Physical privacy as the name suggests is privacy of the self. Physical privacy of a person could be affected both at home and workplace. Physical privacy of a person could be affected by activities such as searching a persons’ belonging, intruding in ones’ personal affairs, etc. Many nations have legal regulations to protect physical privacy of individuals.
Freedom from excessive surveillance
In several places, like offices, public buildings and government organizations, there are surveillance cameras to monitor the activities of individuals. Such surveillance cameras capture the actions of all the visitors coming and getting out of that particular premise. The second form of privacy, freedom from excessive surveillance, is to protect oneself by being subject to surveillance.
Of all the three forms of privacies, the privacy issue associated with new media technology is information privacy. New media technology mainly comprises of internet, voice mail and electronic mail. These have made communication easier, inexpensive and quicker. However, there are several issues associated with new media technologies. Out of the several issues, privacy is one of the leading concerns that all new media technologies should address. Privacy is an important attribute to be maintained by any media. Not all information is public and meant to be accessed by all. It is the responsibility of any media to value privacy of information. It is well known that the information transmitted using new media technology is digital in nature. Unlike static information, these are dynamic and accessible by all. Privacy is one of the primary issues of internet users today. Since digital information sent through internet, is available across the internet, anyone can access and modify the data. The privacy issue in internet restricts the users from sharing private information through the internet.
