Satan has a significance in Christianity and many other prominent religions. As many are intimidated by him, I feel that the eminence and character of Satan casts a balance for the functionality of religion. To further attest this notion, it is important to first understand the surfacing of Satan.
Satan, originally known as Lucifer, is considered a fallen angel by many. Prior to his rebellion against God, he was considered a cherub angel, the highest ranking among all other angels created by Him. The name Lucifer meant “star of the morning” or “the shining one”. Among three other cherub angles (i.e. Gabriel and Michael), Lucifer was originally appointed the responsibility of protecting the holiness of God, and was considered close to Him. Lucifer was considered to posses incredible beauty unknown by man, great wisdom and talent, and embossed by emotions.
It was an unfortunate faith for Lucifer that along with such great characteristics, he also established a sense of pride in himself by the strong features embedded in him by God. It wasn’t until the creation of Adam and Eve that he repelled against God of His novel creation of mankind. Upon testing God’s limit and challenging Him with the creation, Satan accomplished to deceit Eve by provoking her to do something erroneous that resulted in the revocation of his heavenly honour and standing.
