In a survey conducted by an online websites, it was found that more than 58% of the people surveyed felt bad when they selfies of their friend living more glamorous or active life as compared to them. In fact in a study conducted by The University of Birmingham it was found that sharing selfies by the posters might lead to decrease of relationship between the poster and his friends. In a study conducted by American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery revealed that one out of every three plastic surgeon got patients who want to get a plastic surgery just because they are dissatisfied with their image on the social media. And half of these patients were people under age of 30. These facts clearly reveal one aspect of selfie is that it contributes to the feeling of too much self-consciousness which at times cause harm to the person.
Selfies has created a strange pressure on the psyche of the young age group, as they feel if they are not going to post frequent selfies on social media, then their friends might find them boring and living a monotonous life. This thought leads to creation of a psyche where a person from young age group is always looking for opportunities to click selfies and share them with his friends, which in fact is not a good impact of selfies because, a person in young age needs to channelize his thoughts towards other important things such as education, sports etc. However selfies has created a generation that people of young age are constantly thinking of how to look good, how to show-off their achievement etc. through selfies (Sorokowskiet al, 2015).
