The hospital bed manufacturer has approached you as they are planning the introduction of a new bed design to the market. They have been contacted by parents of a disabled paraplegic man who is bed-ridden, to help them with a new bed design that is going to make their roles as carers easier. The company is currently at the stage of designing a prototype, but they have an ambition of taking it into mass production. Your role is to provide project management consultancy due to the fact they expect very high take up of the new product as there is an identified market need, but until now they have not needed to address the production of beds that can be used at home as well as in hospital.
The company has been in existence for over twenty years. It started as a small business with a big vision of the entrepreneur owner Mr Yona. It is located in the East, in a country that has recently been transitioning from a communist regime to allow for private ventures, which made it possible for Mr Yona to set up a company in the first place. The factory and the headquarters are located in a village in the proximity of a large town. The company employs approximately 400 staff, including the skilled employees on the shop floor, the employees in the research and development, the design department and the management.
