The meaning of snacks in my language was having coke and chips or pizza which now meant having raw vegetables or fruits. I often had a craving for them but I had to suffice with corn tortillas only. Anything I ate beside my diet plan increased my glucose level and I was starting to feel that being diabetic meant no party anymore and eating my food very slowly.

The American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org) suggested that I could have the chicken, fish, yogurt, legumes, etc for my diet. Living as a diabetic patient for a week was hard and this is how my daily diabetes chart looked like.

Morning at 8:30: 1 cup sugar free tea + 1-2 wheat biscuits/ 1 medium apple. 1 plate oatmeal + half bowl sprouted grains + 100ml cream-free milk without sugar

Morning at 10.30: 1 small fruit or 1 cup thin and sugar free buttermilk or lemon water

Lunch at 1: 1 bowl rice, 1 bowl pulse, 1 bowl yogurt, half cup soybean or cheese vegetable, half bowl green vegetable, one plate salad

5 pm: 1 cup tea without sugar + 1-2 less sugar biscuits or toast, 1 cup soup

Dinner at 8.30 pm: Pasta and Vegetables with Peanut sauce (App 1 cup)

Dinner Side at 10.30 pm: Take 1 cup cream -free milk without sugar.

Whenever I would feel hungry I would take raw vegetables, salads, black tea, and soup or lemon water. And I had to avoid molasses, sugar, honey, sweets and dry fruits. However, I did not know what a portion was or whether having nuts mean I could take peanuts or not. So a guide was referred to me to the portions one can intake (Diabetic Nutrition chart, no date).
