The experiment faced a lot of flak due to the methodology used and also the outcomes. The time period which was considered for the cases was six months. This period was considered too short and insufficient to cover the cycles and episode based nature of domestic violence cases. Also, Minneapolis was a bit different from other cities in terms of arrest. In Minneapolis, people who are arrested are kept in the lock up for the night, whereas, in most cities, they can be released soon. The study was unethical as it dealt with the personal lives of people. It intruded and influenced private relationships. It was unfair as it gave the police to make arrests without any warrant. Many people could manipulate the mandatory arrest policy and get people arrested unnecessarily (Delbert, 1989).

Most of the US police departments adopted arrest policy for domestic violence cases which might not happened actually. In many cases, they arrested people without any actual reason for the cases. They arrested people based on the probable cause.
