Lecture attendance is one of the key factors considered by most institutions to be affecting the performance of students in examinations. Here this factor is analyzed by grouping the students into 5 classes based on their lecture attendance and analyzing them separately. The minimum and maximum result of each class was observed.
The above chart clearly shows that the minimum score may not be related with lecture attendance but the maximum score in exams is achieved by the students who regularly appear in the lecture. As the number of attended lectures decreases maximum score in examination also decreases.
The last factor under study of student performance is SGT attendance. This is also conventionally considered important by people. Here same methodology is used to observe its impact on examination results. Entries are grouped according to SGT attendance into 5 groups and examination results are observed for those 5 groups.
SGT attendance bar graph did not show any significant relation with examination results. Minimum as well as maximum scores seem independent of the SGT attendance.
A study was carried out to find out the factors that influence examination results of the students. The dataset of 479 students, who studied BSB123 course last year, was tested with 4 parameters, which are; gender, quiz score, lecture attendance, and SGT attendance. In this report it was tried to figure out the relation of these factors with examination results.
While observing the first factor, that is gender, no significant influence was observed. Male and female both students appeared to have high and low grades with least diversity. Secondly, quiz score was observed. There was a wide diversity encountered in the exam result and quiz result. The student who performed well in quiz result did not necessarily perform well in exam. Third and the most important factor is lecture attendance. Notable observations were found in regard of this factor. It is evident that those who attend lectures regularly performed extensively well in exam. The fourth factor is SGT attendance. In case of this factor no remarkable relationship was found. Hence it is evident that more attention is to be paid in case of lecture attendance and students should be motivated to not miss their lectures.
