It is important for the nations to be powerful. Being powerful clearly indicates that the nations have the required capability to ensure security for its people. It is a treaty which ensures that both the sides which have nuclear weapons have enough security to protect their people and ensure that there is peace in the world.
It was the most useful during the times of cold war. During those times, both U.S. and USSR were on the verge of war. Both the nations had developed nuclear power and had the capability to attack each other. It was idealized that if one of the nation throws the nuclear bomb on the other, the other nation will do the same. This will result in death of millions. Mutual Assured Destruction ensured that one can have the nuclear treaty which is sufficient enough to protect them and end their enemies. Also, each of the side needed to convince the other that they can have a nuclear strike. The treaty clearly stated that if one of them would have a nuclear attack, the other will strike back with such a massive attack that the enemy will suffer huge destruction.
After this the successful philosophy related to nuclear deterrence was established. Though it was known to the nation that if a nuclear strike will be done, it will lead to their own destruction, they will be irrational to do the attack.
Though, in the past, there had been wars between nations. Bet MAD was the most important treaty which helped triumph the conventional view of the war. The condition of MAD further increased the fear in the minds of the countries. The primary reason by which MAD helped in securing the world peace was that the nation were at the mercy of another nation. So the fear to be attacked inhibited the nations from attacking their enemies. Because of the high number of nuclear weapons, there was less reliance on the allies for the purpose of security. This further helped to establish more and more peace in the world by prevention of more and more people from being dragged into the war. From the MAD treaty, it was also assumed that death of the civilians is an important part of the mutually assured destruction. Another important consequence of keeping the nuclear weapons is the situation of war led to the loss of the historical significance of the nation and its national strength.

Under a situation in which one of the state has its nuclear weapon while the other does not have, there is a huge chance of war. Thus, nuclear weapons help in maintaining peace in the world. The most evident example of the establishment of peace is because nuclear weapons could be observed during the times of cold war. The stability instability paradox also states that if both the nations has a nuclear power, the probability of the war is reduced by a large amount.

The primary aim of nuclear peace treaty is to ensure that the nuclear weapons technology does not spread and there is cooperation in the peaceful usage of nuclear energy for good purposes. There are five states which have recognized the Non Proliferation Treaty and agreed that they will not transfer their nuclear weapons or technology to other nations. As a part of this treaty, it has been agreed by a total of 190 participants that they will not receive, manufacture, or acquire any nuclear weapons from other nations. Thus, they will not divert the use of the nuclear technology for peaceful purpose. This treaty also bans the 5 nations which have nuclear power to share the same with others and ensures that the other nations will not create any nuclear weapons.
