  The rationale behind the current study is to make autistic children independent. Autistic children are highly dependent on their caregivers or parents. Teaching them basic life skills and self-care tips will make them independent to great extent. Autistic children are dependent on their parents or caregivers for day to day activities such as brushing teeth, taking a shower, dressing up, etc. they show high degree of impairment in self-help skills. Giving them lesson in these self-help skills will be beneficial for them. Self-help skills include taking a shower, riding a bus, brushing your teeth, preparing a meal, crossing the street, or shopping. Self-help skills are important for being less independent.

  Apart from self-help skills, autistic children lack social skills. In a study conducted by Ventola et al, 2014, it was demonstrated that children with autism spectrum disorder have weaker social skills than control group. Social skills include both non-verbal and verbal behaviours that are used for effective communication. Social skill training basically emphasises on behaviour modification. It focuses on learning behaviours which will make autistic children socially competent.

  Also, parents of autistic children want them to be independent and acquire basic self-help skills.

  Principle of applied behaviour analysis (ABA) has enhanced learning and promoted behaviour change in children with autism spectrum disorder. This system is based on operant conditioning. This technique is effective when there is supportive classroom environment and systematic instructional environment. Environment should be carefully designed. Chaotic, distracting environment can inhibit learning. Apart from environment, the instructional system should be carefully designed to promote learning (Heflin & Alberto, 2001).

  There should be emphasis on methods such as chaining (breaking task into steps), errorless learning, visual support teaching and token economy.

  In chaining, the task is split into smaller tasks. The child accomplishes tasks in stages. There are two types of chaining: forward chaining and backward chaining.
