The potential that mega events such as, Olympics, FIFA etc. has in terms of healthcare facilities, but this potential often goes wasted when government unable to utilise such opportunity. For Brazil, biggest miss is aligning objectives of long term event (world cup in 2014) with objectives of social welfare together. These mega events can be useful in promoting and spreading remedies of health problems that are linked with lifestyle. The healthcare facilities are a vital part of any country in a general sense altogether. When a country volunteers to host a mega-event, this becomes even more important (Shah and Batley, 2009). Availability of best health care facility at the country or city will create positive mind set of visitors of the mega event. Irrespective of whether visitor will require health facility at mega event city visitor will feel safer.
In an unlikely event of various healthcare incidents, such facilities in the vicinity of the location of these events act as a lifesaver. The biggest benefit of the increase in healthcare facilities in the mega events is that it not only promotes proper observation of health of the participants, but also the local residents in the long run. Hence, building the hospitals get even more beneficial in terms of future. One example is South Africa, which took upon this issue in 2010 FIFA world cup and made sure that the facilities improved in the otherwise criticized healthcare department. Another good example of promotion of health care, awareness of vaccination and best arrangements for emergencies has resulted in safe environment for visitors. This is possible because WHO, local government and many hospitals join hands for such health care issues (Power et al., 2015).
