The major stakeholders that are associated with this project would include Severn Tidal Power group, Sustainable Development Commission, Severn Tidal Reef, Department of Energy and Climate and the ecologists. These stakeholders are directly associated in terms of decision making and launch of the project in the real time scenario.
The Severn Tidal Power Group has produced a major energy paper and also analyzed the feasible barrages. According to this group, the barrage would make use of the current technology and this would cause significant changes to the environment as a result. However, it was totally unacceptable by the government of Margaret Thatcher as it is not economically viable. The Seven Tidal Reef has also released numerous plans and the team has come out with a structure that will enable them to overcome the side effects and manage the flow of water. The structure was finalized based on the volume of tidal water.
Upon the observation of the tidal power potential, it has produced numerous reports and schemes. It has identified the challenge of viewing the scenario as an environmental opportunity. The energy and climate change division of the region did approve but they were highly concerned about the environmental impacts on the wildlife and biodiversity. While major companies have approved, the project still remained as a risk to many.
