Similarly, promotion is another internal source that is used by the organisations to recruit internal employees. It is the process of upgrading a staff within the existing payroll. It is the way of shifting a staff to a higher position instead of transferring to a different place with high pay, status, facilities and responsibilities. This source has a great psychological impact on the employees to motivate their performance (DeVaro and Morita, 2013).
In general, two different methods are utilised to recruit skilled, qualified and talented employees internally. One method is through employee referrals which the process of recruiting the candidate through reference of employees presents in the organisation. Usually, this process is done by the supervisors. They find skilled candidates based on their performance and refer for the organisation. Another method is job posting, which provides the employees an open invitation to apply for the vacant position. Announcements in such conditions are made through lists, bulletin boards or internal employee portal. In this way, the internal recruitment method helps to save time and cost, as the process requires less training.
Unlike internal method, there is another method called external recruitment method. It is the process of hiring the employees from outside organisation. The external sources often include advertisements, educational institutes, employment agencies and labour contractors (Rudman, 2010). Advertisement is an external method that involves announcement of job vacancy through electronic and different print media. The advantage of using this source is that it covers larger market area and helps to attract candidates from different markets. Another source is universities, colleges and schools. This method is termed as campus recruitment. This process gives the opportunity of recruiting fresh talented candidates. A special campus recruitment cell helps the fresh candidates to get job through this process. Labour contractors are another way of recruiting candidates externally, where the candidates are recruited through contractors. Employment agencies can also help to recruit candidates externally. The organisations run by government, private and public sectors can be employment agencies that help to recruit unskilled, skilled and semi-skilled candidates based on the job requirements (Nankervis, Compton and Morrissey, 2011).
