The major reason of the worst health status of women in China and India are the discrimination against women and discrimination against the girl child. The rights and freedom of the women are denied. The lack of education and less participation in the workforce are seen among the Indian women. This has been also noticed in China as well that with the rapid pace of economic development, those women are less likely to live healthy lifestyle. The study of Song & Bian (2014) found that morbidity and mortality due to chronic illness is higher in Chinese women in comparison to men, which explains the worst health status of women. However, due to the long traditional culture in China, men are in superior position in almost all aspects of life. Great difference is found in the education and employment as well as economic and political empowerment of women in comparison to men in China (Fang et al, 2013).

Although it has been found that social condition of the women in China has improved due to the establishment of P. R. China in the year 1949, it is still very difficult to eradicate the old gender norms completely from the society. The gender gap in the Chinese society is the major concern that results in less access to healthcare services by women and less use of pharmacological treatment therapies in comparison to men (Liu and Dupre, 2014). There has been the lack of empirical data that can display the gender specific difference in the healthcare system of China. However, the hospitalization rate of women in China is higher than men according to some studies (An Analysis Report of National Health Services Survey in China, 2008). Nevertheless, the more sophisticated data is required to understand the gender difference related to health status.
