Conceptual Background: A person who does not know or understand himself is at a great loss as he can not understand his own limitations, boundaries and the lengths that he can go to. He also can not understand his own true potential because of which he holds himself back. When I started off with my job, I was not really aware of my own true potential as it was the first time that I was working in a professional environment with total strangers. I felt shy when I was called in to speak at team meetings and I also felt nervous while presenting something to my superiors. Not really knowing myself and my own true capabilities was a great hindrance to meeting my job targets and in satisfying my superiors with my performance.

PSAT’s: My PSAT’s were effected extremely on the job in the following way:

Performance: My performance fell and suffered greatly because of my inability to judge my own self. I was always nervous and shy at the starting of the job, due to which I had to face strict criticism from my superiors, co-workers and team mates. As the personnel evaluation in my company also included these qualities, my job performance wasn’t as well as could have been expected.

Satisfaction: Due to the constant nervousness I wasn’t been able to adjust to my workplace and with the co-workers. My job satisfaction decreased because I was not feeling very weird and it felt like I totally lacked control of the situation.

Absenteeism: Absenteeism increased as I preferred not to be made fun of at work and I deliberately stayed home some days.

Turnover: The chance of a turnover was high, not because I wasn’t satisfied with the job, rather because I was not satisfied with myself.

Plans for Improvement & their results: Looking at my co-workers present their work and observing the way they acted at the workplace made me realize that, to them, my actions must feel very weird. So I planned to change my attitude at work and show them how fun loving and professional I could be. I started taking more part in discussions at team meetings and throwing in my ideas irrespective of how out-of-the-box they were. This also helped me in improving my presentation skills and finally my superiors started to think that I had great potential. Knowing all of this made me feel good about myself and helped me unlock my true potential.
