India is the biggest democracy of the world with a reasonably good political stability. There is an independent judicial system which is based on English common law; judicial review of legislative acts; accepts compulsory ICJ jurisdiction with reservations; separate personal law codes apply to Muslims, Christians, and Hindus. The government is of progressive outlook and has made many reforms to support industrialisation and encourage foreign investment. India is an emerging economy with powerful presence in the international circuit. The recent trend shows that coalition governments have come to power and provided liberal reforms for the growth and progress of the country.
